Hi friends! It’s fall! Dan and I spent most of September on the Jersey Shore, a place that I have a newfound appreciation for. Especially Asbury Park. I thoroughly enjoyed exploring more of the shore and its cute main street and shops. The high holidays are also in full swing, and I’ve spent the past few weeks in deep reflection, setting fresh goals and dreams for this new year. Yom Kippur was this past Monday. Since my early 20s, I’ve observed Yom Kippur in a non-traditional way, focusing on my soul without forcing myself to fast. Yom Kippur has become my yearly marker to simply check in. I let my mind wander, I get into nature, and I keep things straightforward. My version of fasting is to stay off of social media and give myself the space to look inward at how I can be even more in alignment. I thank myself for all that my body did for me in the past year, and face a new year. And with that,
Here’s what’s on my mind this month.
Speaking of the Jewish High Holidays, this Barbie Sukkah is EVERYTHING and I wish I could make one in our backyard and have all of you over.
Head Spas. This has been a thing in Asian countries for many, many years, but hair health is currently trending, and caring for my scalp will continue to personally be top of mind. A few weeks ago, I stumbled into a v. cool holistic salon in Asbury Park, NJ and ended up booking myself a head spa service (and a goddess blowout that was perfect and even made it through two days of Tropical Storm Ophelia). Artemis Ethos’ head spa was a bit more esoteric— complete with a palo santo smudging and light breath work to ease into the session, mid-treatment sound healing and optional reiki add ons. The experience was fantastic and incredibly relaxing, and now I can’t stop researching NYC-based Japanese and Korean spas that offer traditional head spa services. I saved a few spots and will try to make it to one for another experience.
Full skirts paired with chunky sweaters and/or button downs are my whole personality this fall, so you’ve been pre-warned if every picture of me features a version of this outfit. Here is a skirt I have my eye on, a dress that is perfect for layering, and a sweater that I am saving up for.
The leaves are changing colors out here west of the Catskills and every view is absolutely stunning. My morning walks have been so peaceful and inspiring. It’s hard to believe that peak leaf change is almost here, and I’m so grateful to be in the Northeast where the show is (in my humble native new englander opinion) the best.
Speaking of the changing of seasons, my skin is needing extra love lately. I am ready to do a full skincare overhaul, and really intrigued by this mask. I might have to pick one up at Take Care on my upcoming DC visit.
I modeled for AWAY luggage in August and am tickled every time I am served an ad with my legs in it. (DC is getting it’s own store in Georgetown next week!)
I can’t get over this masterpiece. I tried to learn the choreography a few weeks ago but I am way past the old days of 4x a week dance classes.
This was a really great read by Mari Andrew, shared with me via my great friend Margaret Lefton. I really resonated with what we all face as artists in the world today, especially as I have recently jumped back into the freelance ring. I am curious to see how this next chapter unfolds, and how we will continue to find ways to support one another.
My therapist suggested this episode of We Can Do Hard Things and I resonated with more than a few parts of it. A must listen for pretty much everyone.
I came across this earring in the cutest store in Asbury Park last weekend and can’t stop thinking about it! And part of the proceeds from this piece go to supporting transgender youth.
In that same store, I fell in love with these mugs, handmade with clay from the artist’s property and hand painted cats 😻.
I’m not exactly one for Halloween dress up, HOWEVER, this costume had me in a trance, watching this reel over and over to watch every step. It’s so cool!
And finally, I’m feeling as though knitting a dickie is in my future for this winter. I think a bright, lime green one would be so, SO good. And who knows, maybe I’ll make a few extra ;).
And a few (additional) things to note:
I’ve partnered with Onda Wellness because I am in love with these products. Every tincture is made from hemp grown with biodynamic practices and is infused to incorporate the whole flower and its benefits. I’ve tried the Whole Hemp, Solid Sleep, and Adios Anxiety formulas and all have been incredible. I hope some of you may try these. Use MOJALVO25 for a little discount.
My BARD sweatshirts are still open for orders! If you (or a friend) are considering, the time is now. I’ve brought back the ever-popular Picnic in Bed Sweatshirt, and launched the newest edition, Spice Sweatshirt. Sales will close on Sunday so that I can get these babies made for you all :).
Lastly, it brought me so much joy to pack and deliver these beautiful tins of Puglian olive oil. Stay tuned, as I am planning a virtual event with Arianna, the olive farmer. If you want to take part in this experience and weren’t a part of the first order, just reply to this newsletter!
Shabbat Shalom and Chag Sameach :)
Also, Hi Barbie! I sent the Barbie Sukkah to my MIL straight away. Love!
Love this one. I plan to read with my girl after school. I know she will love & resonate with all of this. Your fast sounds perfectly in alignment with your soul. Love the Halloween costume, dance & can hardly wait to finish. Obviously had to leave a comment to let you know how much I appreciate you shining your light brightly through all the phases AND sharing along the way! You go girl! 🥳
