Just in time for the high holidays, I present you with the Spice Sweatshirt. Shot on Portra 400 film, this is one of my favorite images from my visit to Israel this time last year.
Walking through the ancient port city of Akko is always a thrill. The mixture of Hebrew and Arabic languages, smoothed stones and fishermen, the crashing of the bluest water onto the shore and delicious knafe are all joys for the senses. We wandered through the market, and my sister and I bought special paddles to make mamoul, a popular semolina flour cookie stuffed with dates. We sat to a lunch of warm hummus, best enjoyed swiped with onion petals and pita, and deliciously briney pickles. We had fresh-pressed pomegranate juice and soaked in the sun. I saw this spice stall in the market and loved the pink signage in the sacks. I really enjoy buying spices in the markets—the vendors always insist that you smell before you buy and big spoons of tantalizing herbs are brought to your nose. I always leave Israel with za’atar, sumac, gummy dried hibiscus petals, and chai tea.
For this sweatshirt, I am working with a small-batch printer in Pennsylvania. John is really excited to be producing this edition of BARD, and the sample looks so beautiful. We will be producing this image onto naturally-dyed sweatshirts in this lovely and versatile soft pink. It is perfect for the autumn and will be a fun pop of color in the winter! As always, the sweatshirt will be embroidered (by the lovely Evan in Washington DC) with the MOJALVO logo, based off the evil eye. This protective symbol wards off any jealousy or ill wishes that are directed your way.
The Spice Sweatshirt will be on sale for pre-orders through September 24th. Every BARD is limited edition and once sales close, no more will be made. The production time will be 4-6 weeks and is hand packaged just for you :).
Thank you for your continued support, and I hope you feel compelled to be a part of this edition of BARD!
L’shana tova u’metukah!
