The Post House Inn, located in the village just west of Charleston—Mount Pleasant, SC, is simply a delight. Curated and built by Kate and Ben Towill of Basic Projects, the inn has so many cool factors—like their vintage needlepoint rugs, and the unique design of each room—while maintaining a wonderful balance of coziness. The first floor is home to their restaurant, a space that has [rapidly] become a spot for regular locals in the neighborhood to pop by for dinner and a drink.
There was something incredibly nostalgic for me in my stay at the Post House. Perhaps it was the rustling Palmetto trees in the breeze, and the sounds of native Southeastern birds and bugs that reminded me of growing up in Southern Florida. Or, maybe it was the faint murmurs of wine glasses clinking, and tinkling laughter that evaporated up through the floorboards into my hotel room as I fell asleep, bringing back sweet memories of childhood, when my parents’ parties would go on downstairs after my bedtime, and that little comfort of golden light would seep in underneath the door frame.
Mornings are slow here, and breakfast is memorable. A plate of bounty of fruits, two perfectly boiled eggs, prosciutto, cheese, and a [literal] French croissant perfectly mixes and matches bite-after-bite. Follow breakfast up with a bike ride around the neighborhood, and perhaps a little stroll at Shem Creek Park, and you’ve got a recipe for one peaceful stay.
