Hi! What are your names, and where are you from?
Sima Gil and Noam Kich, we are from Israel
How did you discover your art form(s)?
Each one of us has been creating for a long time. Discovering our art form is an endless process that still develops every time we create something new.
What draws you to the mediums you work in?
Noam: I’ve always been drawn to clay—its responsiveness and memory. Working with porcelain is like a dialogue; it’s fragile, temperamental, and incredibly expressive.
Sima: The medium of drawing is the root medium that I’ve used since I started creating and it grows with me—so far it has expanded to things like ceramics and tattoos.
When did you start working together?
We started working together almost two years ago but we wanted to collaborate even before then. When we rented a studio together, working together felt like something that we had to try and it felt like the perfect timing to try.
How did you meet?
We met in Jerusalem when we were 19 years-old through common friends. It was love from the first time haha! Since then we have been best friends.
What is the backstory of this collection?
The desire to work together is the main driving force behind this collection, which embodies our close friendship and combines Noam's design language and her technical skills with porcelain, with Sima's drawing style. We are very different in our personalities, and likewise in the ways we create. This contrast is reflected in the pieces themselves, which combine meticulously crafted and highly precise forms with spontaneous, unplanned drawings applied in a free and expressive manner. The contrast between our distinct qualities creates something unique—something that holds each of us as individuals, while also reflecting our deep friendship and connection.
What do you hope that people feel when they use these tumblers?
We hope that people will smile when they use the tumblers.
Where do you feel most at ease?/joy?
The most joyful moment in the process is when the pieces come out of the ceramic kiln and we’re happy with the result. Working with clay is not easy, and often during the firing stage, the pieces can break or become damaged. Opening the kiln is a moment filled with uncertainty, excitement, and anticipation.
What is your go-to ritual or practice?
The most important thing for us is the atmosphere. We always start the day with coffee, music, talking, and laughing together.
What feels important to hold on to right now in the world? (A feeling, sentiment, belief)
To spread love instead of hate.
What projects are you excited about that you’re working on or will be?
We have big dreams for our next collection that we can’t share yet 🤭
Anything else you’d like to add?
We’re just really grateful—for our friendship, for the chance to work together, and for everyone who takes the time to engage with the pieces we make.
Thank you, thank you ♥️
What a gift you have, Sima and Noam! These are true works of art.
