I’ve always had a classic cross-country road trip on my bucket list. Being a first-generation American and having grown up entirely on the East Coast of the U.S., most of our trips took us abroad to visit family, and that, of course, always took priority. I’ve only been out West a handful of times, mostly to California—besides that one trip I took with my family in 2008 to see my mom compete in a Mrs. America pageant in Tucson (what a time!). So, when the idea began to form around spending the month of December on the road, I thought, “Why not?”.
We are loosely planning our trip, but as of now, we plan to drive across Louisiana, into Texas, across the great West, landing in San Diego. From there, we’ll move a bit north and swing through Joshua Tree, hopefully touching into Arizona, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and who knows where else! I am excited to allow space for magic to find its way to us.
My ask to all of you, my lovely subscribers, is to fill me in! Have a great tip for road-tripping? What are the must-haves, must-dos? Who do I need to meet? Anywhere that we must stop?
And on the note of must-sees and must-dos, I have my cameras and voice recorder, and I would love to capture some stories. I’m calling in:
Boutique hotels
Makers, artisans, and artists sharing beautiful things with the world
Innovative people who are passionate about what they do and want to tell their story
Independent restaurants and chefs who are creating soul-warming dishes and spaces.
And anything else along these lines!
Although I plan to take a break from heavy online activity, I do plan on sharing a few dispatches from the road. Stay tuned, and hop in!
As always, to more beauty and more fun,
x M
