One of my favorite parts of visiting Puglia this summer was the time between sunset and dinner. As golden hour turned to dusk, the streets would fall into a peaceful lull, and almost everyone took a seat to have a refreshment. Most times, Dan and I would have a beer and an Aperol Spritz, respectively. We’d watch the tourists and locals strolling about, taking in the rippling ocean and the peachy skies. There is space for slowing down and there is no rush for dinner. Why not have some spaciousness?
I grew very fond of the Aperol Spritz while in Italy. Before our trip I felt as though it was quite played out--as it had its moment in the sun a few summers ago here in the states. However, enjoying the beverage it in its country of origin, sipping from a dewy glass filled with flavors of bitter orange and bubbly prosecco, the scent of salt air at my nose, sang with complete perfection. One of our favorite nights in Puglia was when we had aperitivo at Malidea, a little bar right on the water’s edge. We enjoyed our drinks for a few hours before making our way to a seafood dinner. We split a bowl of delicious olives and a doughy bread sprinkled with fresh oregano and salt. It was everything.
There is something really special about taking time to just exist in current surroundings. To take it all in and just be. The practice of aperitivo stands out to me because people are just being and living. As we enjoy the last of these late summer nights, I wanted to continue to be reminded of taking days at a slower pace, and this edition of BARD is all about that.
Let’s continue to slow into the juicy goodness, and have an Aperol Spritz together.
As usual, these are limited runs. Sales will be open through the 25th.
