My friend Hallie tipped me off to a place called Ravenwood located in Kerhonkson, NY through a forwarded email announcing its opening for the season. As soon as I read it, I knew we had to take a trip to check it out.
Ravenwood is a collective where art and food intersect, and the property is a stunner. We parked amongst pine trees and approached a dark wood barn perched on a hill with a long table at it’s entryway piled organically with fresh loaves of bread, long tendrils of spring garlic, mushrooms, and bunches of flowers. Beyond this sat a small counter to order from a small but well-thought-out menu and beautiful pastries. We took two drip coffees, a ganache, and a chocolate cookie to stay. On the walls—a collection of curated art work, and on tables and hangers—a selection of unique homewares, pantry items, Eleven Six knits, and dreamy overcoats from Naadam.
Once you’ve ordered (and shopped), the barn opens up in the back to a lush, sloping backyard smattered with picnic tables and benches, a firepit, and lots of space for kids and dogs (and maybe some adults?) to play. We settled into a small table by the barn and enjoyed sips of coffee with our chocolate treats. I could’ve sat there all day—it invited such a sense of peace.
Ravenwood also hosts ocassional dinners and events, and I will be keeping my eye out for these. If you visit, be sure to pop over to the Catskill Native Nursery next door. It was hopping when we drove past a few weeks ago, and is a perfect place to stock up on plants for your upstate (or city) garden! Thank you to Dana and Chris for creating such an inspiring space for gathering, I can’t wait to return.
