#9 The olive oil is back!
a very special olive oil from a Pugliese grove where the farmers sing to the trees
Last year, in the peak of summer, Dan and I attended a wedding in Tuscany. Deciding to explore more of Italy, we drove to Puglia for the second leg of our trip. We stumbled upon an olive grove offering tours near Brindisi and sent them a message. To our luck, the couple were not doing tours, but rather embarking on a new, more unique offering—a supper club enjoyed al fresco under the ancient Pugliese olive trees.
Amongst new friends we played a round of bocce, tried a wine made from the Negroamaro grape, and had a fresh pasta dinner drenched with the most delicious olive oil made from the trees that we dined under.
I stayed in touch with the farmers—Arianna and David, captivated by their welcoming energy, history-rich farm, and incredibly flavorful olive oil. Arianna shared the history of her family’s farm that night— how it dates back centuries, and how the farmers who tended to the olive fruits would sing to the plants to help them grow strong. I genuinely believe that this is why their oil is so wonderful—it is infused with a tender joy. After dinner, we spent hours sitting with our new Italian friends chatting about all kinds of things late into the summer night. It was so easeful, so delicious. It was everything I wish for life to be.
Whenever I drizzle this oil on my salads, or dip a piece of sourdough into it’s silky green pools, I am reminded of the beauty of simply living.
I've ordered a limited supply of these delicious tins of evoo once again featuring their latest harvest and production. There are two varieties available this year—Peranzana, which we got last year, a moderatetly robust olive oil that is well-balanced and incredibly flavorful, along with the Biancolila—a gorgeous blend that is slightly softer in flavor to the Peranzana, yet maintains a delightful bitterness and peppery quality on the tongue. From how Ari described it to me, I can't wait to try it. In fact, it won the gold award at the NYWorld competition for olive oils in the robust category this year.Â
The tins are .25L and will be sold for $18.99ea + shipping. If you are interested, kindly shoot me an email at maya@mojalvo.com with your shipping address, which oil(s) you're interested in, and I will set up your order.Â
Words can't express how very excited I am to share this oil with all of you once again. It truly brings me so much joy to know that we are all dipping and pouring this oil in community with one another, experiencing the work of a very special family-run grove in the south of Italy.Â
All of my love, M
This sounds incredible! I truly believe that the tenderness of the land contributes to the quality of the olive oil that you love so much. I hope to try some soon! x
